Why City Cost of Living
Built for digital nomads, not tourists
Most cost-of-living sites show you one number. We built a field guide that answers the questions nomads actually ask.
Digital nomad cost of living is about more than rent. Our monthly estimates combine real 1-bedroom rents with groceries, restaurants, transport passes, utilities, gym memberships, mobile plans and internet — the full basket you'd actually buy.
Nomad internet speeds are a dealbreaker for remote work. Every city profile includes fixed and mobile download speeds and latency from Ookla speed test averages, so you can pick a base that handles video calls and uploads.
Visa-free travel decides how easy it is to move. Select your passport and the entire site shows the stay each city grants you — days allowed, eVisa or full visa — so you can filter to places you can actually go.
+What is the Nomad Score?
The Nomad Score ranks each city from 0–100 for digital nomads using five weighted dimensions: affordability (35%), internet speed (25%), climate (15%), safety (15%) and visa freedom (10%).
+Where does the cost of living data come from?
Prices come from Numbeo-style field data: 1BR rent in and outside the city centre, groceries, restaurant meals, transport passes, utilities, gym and mobile plans. Monthly totals reflect a solo digital nomad's real spending patterns.
+How do you measure internet speed?
Fixed and mobile download/upload speeds and latency come from Ookla speed test averages per city. Faster fiber means a better remote-work setup — it's 25% of the Nomad Score.
+Can I filter cities by my passport?
Yes. The Passport page lets you choose your passport country, then shows every tracked city grouped by what your passport gets you — visa-free, eVisa or visa-on-arrival — with the stay days allowed.
+What's the cheapest city for digital nomads?
The map lets you sort and filter cities by monthly cost and Nomad Score, and the city report shows full spend breakdowns. Set your budget on the Budget page.
